I noticed that a fellow wordpress.com blogger – Thomas at WordsAboutThings was featured on the WordPress homepage when he posted straight forward informations and details about ways to help the Haiti earthquake disaster appeal – putting politics and religion aside and focusing on the importance of speed in sending aid and providing relief to the Haitians following the catastrophic earthquake that devasted the country last week.

Where WordsAboutThings lead Google followed – it too now has a page of suggested resources for support disaster relief which includes many of the resources chosen by Thomas:

Oxfam have set up a Haiti earthquake page which includes information on the situation as it develops. You can also donate to the Haiti earthquake fund.

Yele Haiti

Also for Americans: donate $5 to Wyclef Jean’s charity Yele Haiti by texting ‘Yele’ to 501501.

The British Red Cross

You can visit the British Red Cross site to donate to their Haiti Earthquake appeal.

When these poor people (in every sense of the word) start to rebuild their shattered lives the international community must help the country to develop an earthquake proof infrastructure, water supplies that continue to function, buildings that don’t collapse etc.

Given the money, the will and the knowledge, it can be done.
